For Maleah.

Okay, so I made something to go above my bed that I have mentioned several times that apparently is driving Maleah CRAZY.. so I thought I might just post on it for her. :)

The reason I haven't posted on it yet is because it isn't quite finished, but oh well I mean I don't know when it will be, so I'll just go ahead and bite the bullet. :)

First of all - it's not nearly as exciting as I made it sound, so Maleah, I'm sorry if you're disappointed. :) But maybe now you can get excited about the light fixture I made for our bedroom! Oohhh the suspense! Haha.

So I had a HUGE blank spot above our bed that was begging for something, and I thought about a thousand different things (things I still probably will eventually replace what I have now with), but I decided I was going to stencil something meaningful onto a raw piece of burlap and hang it with nails.

Our room is really warm and neutral, and I love that about it. Everything has great texture (pin-tucked duvet, burlap covered lamps with stainless steel bases, and a shaggy rug, suede chair, etc.). So I thought the dark burlap would complement well. Also, everything is shades of grey (from charcoal to the pale soft grey on our walls - I'm obsessed with it) and creams (yellowy to pale cream). So the burlap would add another dimension to that warm, neutral scheme.

Well I bought the burlap and as I had it laying out in our living room to let the wrinkles fall out, I read a blog post from a blog I subscribe to and GUESS what she made: a woven burlap pin board for above her bed! Perfect!

So I followed her instructions (or maybe I just made them up to get the finished product I saw?) and I made us the same thing! So far we only have two tiny things pinned up on it, but I hope to fill it up like hers was. That's the unfinished part. And honestly, Logan just wanted to leave it plain so we'll see if he gets his way there.

Her blog post and tutorial is here. She did a MUCH better job than me - so pay attention to hers, not mine. And check out the rest of her blog - it is really amazing what she makes and shares tutorials on!

But here are photos of my process and the finished (or unfinished) product.

I really would have liked a much bigger cork board, but my sister had this one that she didn't want anymore and I didn't want to spend any money on this project so it worked out okay. Ideally, I love oversized wall art so it would be awesome to have something HUGE back there (the original plan with the raw burlap was going to be almost the entire space.) But that's okay. At least something is there for now. And you can see the two doo-dads I've stuck up there so far:

- A silhouette of Logan and I as we were being married (the coolest part, in my opinion). That I copied from her post.
- A "Spirit of Nashville" nostalgic postcard of Cheekwood - the art museum and estate/gardens where Logan proposed. :)

I have gone through his love letters to me to find some jems to hang like in the original post, but I can't seem to narrow them down... they're just all too good! :)

Anyway, Maleah, this was for you. And TGIF and Happy Easter to everyone else! (Which reminds me... I made some friends at work some flower arrangement and "Easter Piles" - since I didn't have baskets - that I'd love to blog on later! Hurray!)
